Maklike Kindertruitjie om te Brei

Liewe Sussie,

Double knitting (also called 8ply) wool (2 x 100gr balls for smallest size, 5 x 100gr balls for biggest size)
Needles Size 8 and 10 (4 and 3.25) (I don't bother with smaller needles for the ribs, I just knit everything with size 8.)
Back and Front alike:
Using size ten needles, cast on 67; 73; 77; 83 stitches, work 14 rows in k1, p1 rib. Start the first row with k2 because you have an uneven number of stitches. (I sometimes do K2,P2 rib just for a change.)
Change to size 8 needles and work 23; 25; 27; 29 cm in stocking stitch. End with a purl row.
Tip #1: when you have finished the front up to here, count how many rows you have done and use a row counter when knitting the back - thus making sure they are exactly the same! You only have to move the counter on at every plain row.
Shape armholes:
Cast off 4; 4; 4; 5 st at beg of next 2 rows. Dec at each end of next and alt rows (i.e the knit rows) until
53; 57; 61; 65 st remain.
Work 14; 14; 18; 22 rows in stocking stitch.
Work 9; 11; 13; 15 rows k1, p1 rib as before.
Tip #2: it looks better if you knit into the back of the plain stitches when doing the yoke rib, but this is optional.
Shape shoulders:
Cast off 4; 4; 5; 5 stitches at beg of next 2 rows and 3; 4; 4; 5 at beginning of the following 2 rows.
Cast off remaining stitches loosely in rib.
Sleeves: Using size 10 needles, cast on 35; 37; 39; 41 stitches and work in rib as for back, 14; 14; 14 ;16 rows.
Change to size 8 needles. Work 4 rows in stocking stitch and on the 5th (plain) row, increase 1 stitch at each end of the row by this method: knit one stitch, then knit into the front and back of the second stitch - when you get to the end of the row, knit into the front and back of the penultimate stitch and then knit the last stitch.
Increase as before in every following 4th row until there are 49; 45; 43; 47 stitches. For smallest size, keep at 49 stitches. For other sizes, increase in every following 6th row until there are 53; 69; 65 stitches.
Continue until side edge measures 21; 26; 31; 35cm, ending with a purl row. (See Tip #1)
Shape top: cast off 2; 2; 2; 3 st at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec at each end of next and alt (plain) rows until 39; 39; 43; 43 st remain, then dec at each end of every row until 13 sts remain. Cast off.
